7 Things to Check Before Buying a Bed
1. What’s Inside the Mattress
⮕ Ask for the foam density — look for at least 28 kg/m3 in standard comfort foam and 50kg/m3 in memory foam to ensure good quality.
⮕ Watch for token layers (e.g., a thin strip ofmemory foam or latex just for marketing).
⮕ Check the springs: ideally 3-zoned for proper support, with a gauge of 15 or lower for durability.
2. Mattress Materials
⮕ Check if it’s made from synthetic fibres or natural materials.
⮕ Ask what the quilted filling is made of — synthetic fibres or natural fibres like wool. Synthetic fibres can trap heat and cause overheating, while natural fibres such as wool help regulate temperature and wick away moisture.
3. Comfort & Pressure Points
⮕ Lie on the bed for at least 10 minutes — don’t decide in 30 seconds.
⮕ Check that your spine stays aligned when lying on your side. You should not feel pressure on your shoulders or hips — that’s a sign the bed is too firm.
4. Marketing Labels Don’t Guarantee Comfort
⮕ Words like “Chiropractic” or “Orthopedic” don’t mean a bed will be right for you.
⮕ Everyone’s body shape, weight, and needs are different — there’s no “one size fits all.”
5. Fake Sales
⮕ “50% OFF” all year? That’s just the normal price with a fake discount tag.
⮕ Some stores inflate the ‘original’ price so the “sale” looks bigger. If a sale is on almost all the time, it’s not a sale — it’s just marketing.
6. Comfort Issues & Your Options
⮕ Ask if there’s a comfort trial period — can you exchange or adjust the mattress if it feels too firm or too soft once you're sleeping on it?
⮕ Check if exchanges/adjustments incur any fees.
7. The Warranty Fine Print
⮕ Does it cover comfort loss/sagging or just manufacturing faults?
⮕ What indentation depth is needed for a claim? (Get the number in mm).
Your sleep matters. Take your time, ask the right questions,
and find the bed that's truly right for you.
